Research Interest

Taxonomic Monographic studies, Molecular phylogenetic studies, Bioresource mapping and characterization, Biodiversity conservation and augmentation of bioresources, Climate change studies with reference to Biodiversity, Ecological studies to estimate biodiversity loss and associated services in targeted ecosystems, etc.

Research
  • Monographic studies on the Himalayan genera Pedicularis (Scrophulariaceae), Aconitum, Delphinium, Consolida, Anemone (Ranunculaceae), Gentiana (Gentianaceae), Corydalis (Fumariaceae), Saxifraga (Saxifragaceae), Silene (Caryophyllaceae) and family Poaceae, etc. including molecular phylogenetics. Resolution of several taxonomic complexes and typification of 76 taxa have been done.

  • Floristic studies on unexplored and inaccessible core regions of Indian Himalayas like, Pangi Valley (Trans–Himalaya), Pindari Valley, Milam Valley, Darma Valley and North East India (Manipur and Nagaland) and also from different phytogeographic zones and protected areas (Bhimbetka WHS, KWLS, GWLS).

  • Assessment of Impact of climate change on the altitudinal distribution and eco-physiological traits of biodiversity along the different altitudinal gradients in Indian Himalayan Region.

  • Taxonomic studies on the family Poaceae to assess the grass diversity and conservation status from western Himalaya and to provide comprehensive information on the current status of economically important grass family.

  • Ex-situ conservation of 150 threatened taxa of Orchids, Cycas, Zingibers, etc. from North East India in CSIR-NBRI Botanic Garden. Critically endangered medicinal plants have been raised through in-vitro propagation.

  • Identification of elite chemotypes in the critically endangered and highly medicinal plants Aconitum, Berberis, Dioscorea and Trillium govanianum, to give newer insights for their conservation management and sustainable utilization.

  • Water quality monitoring of river Ganga from Gomukh to Hooghly, under National Mission on Clean Ganga (NMCG).

  • Established a World Class Multi-purpose Botanical Garden with herbarium in Ballarpur Tehsil of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra.

  • Identification of 14 new sacred groves in Western Himalaya having relict vegetation and the last refugia of threatened plants conserved on religious beliefs.

  • Enrichment of plant resources from different phytogeographic zones of India, Management and Curation of Internationally recognized CSIR-NBRI Herbarium (National Repository for Indian Flora) for maximum R & D output.
