AcSIR

Introduction of AcSir

The Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) is established with a view to maximize the number of qualified researchers and professionals in the domain of science & engineering, who will be equipped with the skills of innovation and interdisciplinary integration. AcSIR is envisaged to emerge as a world class institution of national importance. The AcSIR would impart course instructions and award degrees in frontier areas of science and technology.

About AcSIR-NBRI:

the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) established in 2011 as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ (interim operations started in June, 2010), AcSIR has adopted the mandate to create and train some of the best of tomorrow’s Science & Technology leaders through a combination of innovative and novel curricula, pedagogy and evaluation. AcSIR’s focus is on providing research opportunities in such areas that are not routinely taught in regular academic universities in India. AcSIR-HQis in Ghaziabad and it is responsible for centralized administrative functions. About 80 AcSIR Associated Research Institutes are spread along the length and breadth of India. In addition, AcSIR has collaborative academic programs with other national and international educational institutions.

At present, the Academy has 2748 faculty members from CSIR Laboratories, around ~6500 students enrolled in various programmes.

AcSIR is listed in the Ministry of Education, Government of India’s website under “Institutions of National Importance” at Serial Number 148. https://www.education.gov.in/en/institutions-national-importance

AcSIR is ranked 11th by “Scimago Institutions Rankings”, 12th by “Nature Index” and 11th by “NIRF” in the Research Category, among the academic institutions in India.

CSIR-NBRI has been running the AcSIR PhD programme since 2011 in the faculty of Biological Sciences and the AcSIR PhD programme in the faculty of Agriculture Sciences started in 2024. There are. around 40 AcSIR faculty members in CSIR and NBRI guiding around 200 AcSIR PhD scholars in different areas.

Objectives

  • Disseminate advanced knowledge in science and technology.
  • Provide teaching and research facilities in emerging and futuristic areas of inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary fields — whether the focus is natural sciences, life sciences, mathematical and computational sciences, medical sciences, engineering, applied art, humanities, social sciences, or law relating to these areas.
  • Adopt measures for innovations in teaching and learning processes.
  • Create an ambience for learning and scholarship in advanced science and technology instead of exclusively focusing on marks or grades.
  • Educate and train manpower in scientific and technological fields; science 2.0 e-enabled cloud environment.
  • Establish linkages with industries in India and outside India for the promotion of science and technology.
  • Collaborate, in appropriate areas in the field of science and technology, with reputed universities and institutions in India and outside India.
  • Promote research in science and technology having a bearing on social, economic, cultural, and intellectual welfare of the people.
  • Organize and undertake extramural studies, training, and extension services.

Mission

  • The mission of the Academy is to create the highest quality personnel with cross-disciplinary knowledge, aiming to provide leaders in the field of science and technology.
  • Nurture a research-propelled, technology-enabled, industry-linked, socially conscious higher education platform.
  • Achieve a seamless integration of intellectual strengths with current market needs with a people-centric focus.

Admission Process

In Short: Screening ➤ Test/Interview ➤ Document Verification ➤ Final Joining

Admissions to AcSIR-NBRI PhD programmes are conducted twice a year. The participating NBRI announces the admission criteria and procedure through National Dailies and Web media.

Shortlisted candidates fulfilling the shortlisting criteria of NBRI will be called for a test and/or interview by the Selection Committees.

Based on the academic record and the performance of the candidates in the test and/or interview, the Selection Committee of NBRI recommends names of the selected candidates to the Dean, Biological Science.

The number of candidates called for the test/interview will be commensurate with the number of seats/requirements in NBRI for scientists.
