Introduction of AcSir
The Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) is established with a view to maximize the number of qualified researchers and professionals in the domain of science & engineering, who will be equipped with the skills of innovation and interdisciplinary integration. AcSIR is envisaged to emerge as a world class institution of national importance. The AcSIR would impart course instructions and award degrees in frontier areas of science and technology.
About AcSIR-NBRI:
the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) established in 2011 as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ (interim operations started in June, 2010), AcSIR has adopted the mandate to create and train some of the best of tomorrow’s Science & Technology leaders through a combination of innovative and novel curricula, pedagogy and evaluation. AcSIR’s focus is on providing research opportunities in such areas that are not routinely taught in regular academic universities in India. AcSIR-HQis in Ghaziabad and it is responsible for centralized administrative functions. About 80 AcSIR Associated Research Institutes are spread along the length and breadth of India. In addition, AcSIR has collaborative academic programs with other national and international educational institutions.
At present, the Academy has 2748 faculty members from CSIR Laboratories, around ~6500 students enrolled in various programmes.
AcSIR is listed in the Ministry of Education, Government of India’s website under “Institutions of National Importance” at Serial Number 148. https://www.education.gov.in/en/institutions-national-importance
AcSIR is ranked 11th by “Scimago Institutions Rankings”, 12th by “Nature Index” and 11th by “NIRF” in the Research Category, among the academic institutions in India.
CSIR-NBRI has been running the AcSIR PhD programme since 2011 in the faculty of Biological Sciences and the AcSIR PhD programme in the faculty of Agriculture Sciences started in 2024. There are. around 40 AcSIR faculty members in CSIR and NBRI guiding around 200 AcSIR PhD scholars in different areas.
