CSIR Floriculture Mission
It is a unique mission project which is aimed to uplift the income of the farmers of India through the adoption of floriculture and provides an opportunity for them to venture into entrepreneurship. This nationwide mission is being implemented in various states of the country and will help in the development of entrepreneurship through high-value floriculture utilizing R&D technologies developed by CSIR laboratories. This ambitious mission tends to improve the status of Indian floriculture in the global scenario through the implementation of improved technologies of cultivation, the production of good quality planting materials, the development of new floral varieties and value-added products, capacity building, and human resource development. CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow is the nodal institute of the mission and other participating institutes are CSIR-IHBT, Palampur, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, and CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow. The mission project is aimed to expand the area under floriculture in the country by providing quality planting materials, developing new floricultural crop varieties, developing school gardens, promoting urban floriculture, creating market linkage, developing post-harvest value-added products and technologies, and finding out potential areas suitable for floriculture. The activities of the mission are being spread into six verticals–
- Production of Quality Planting Material (QPM).
- Expansion of areas under floriculture.
- Urban Floriculture.
- Development of Post-harvest and value-addition technologies.
- Integration of apiculture and floriculture.
- Establishing effective market linkage.
- New variety development and registration. Under these verticals, the mission is fast-forwarding its goals and achieving its target of boosting floriculture in India.
